The Approach

As India embarks on a difficult journey towards greater reliance on domestic industry to produce state-of-art defence equipment and systems, a critical factor to first overcome is the quality of higher technical education being imparted by Indian institutions. The state of technical higher education is the subject of the conference in New Delhi: Upgrading Technical Education: The Essence of “Make in India.”.

This conference seeks to find a way out of this cul-de-sac by inviting teaching institutions and global defence giants reputed for work in cutting edge technology to speak and to explore collaborations with local counterparts towards developing a large pool of engineering talent that can in the future help bring to fruition the official Indian doctrine of “Make in India”.

Astute observers of the Indian educational infrastructure believe it is fine-tuned to only to cater to the engineering services segment, and out of its depth in developing engineers to match the challenges of innovation.
