A COMPLEX SET OF CHALLENGES confronts India as it emerges as the world’s fastest growing large economy in 2015. This emergence is not merely in economic terms, but in a more comprehensive manner as a potential contributor to the future stability and prosperity of Asia and the world.
While India undergoes rapid economic development, which will allow it to acquire the status of a middle-income country in the near future, its primary task must remain the lifting of tens of millions of its citizens out of poverty. However, its progress will be conditioned and challenged by profound global changes now underway, with major implications for India’s security. The need to shape our policies based on a correct analysis of these developments is the single most important challenge facing India.
