A Distant Perspective on “Make in India”

An Engaging Slogan For an admirer of India, its people and the varied cultures, of a fascinating country, it is a difficult challenge to judge the “Make in India” campaign, a main theme of the two years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, from a perspective in Brazil, a faraway Latin member of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa).
Prime Minister Modi promised, and has to an extent delivered in many ways. Changes, mostly improvements, in the economic structure – encompassing transportation, energy, infrastructure, foreign direct investment, liberalisation of services and other international exchanges – have taken place in tandem with an active foreign policy and well-intentioned measures to reduce red tape and ignite the country with positive and engaging slogans calling for a new, better, healthier and greener India.
