Election Manifestos in India Largely Ignore Foreign Policy

In the run up to India’s parliamentary polls, its political parties – national, regional and at state level – were trying to woo the electorate with attractive packages and concessions on health , education, housing and such like, but paid relatively scant attention to one critical area, foreign policy.
The provisions for foreign policy in the manifestos of the Indian National Congress Party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and regional parties such as the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Khazagam (AIADMK) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) appeared to be out of sync with the nation’s aspirations for world power status.
